Taita Taveta County
Taita Taveta County lies between Nairobi and Mombasa near the Tanzanian border. Much of it is occupied by Tsavo East and Tsavo West national parks, together forming one of Kenya’s largest protected landscapes. Tsavo East is known for vast plains, the Yatta Plateau and elephants coloured red by local soil. Tsavo West has lava flows, rugged hills and Mzima Springs, where clear water supports hippos, fish and other wildlife. The greener Taita Hills rise above the lowlands and shelter rare endemic birds. The county also contains First World War sites connected with the East African campaign.
