Kajiado County

Kajiado County surrounds Nairobi to the south and reaches the border with Tanzania. Amboseli National Park is its leading attraction, celebrated for large elephant herds, wetlands and clear-day views of Mount Kilimanjaro across the border. Closer to Nairobi, the Ngong Hills offer breezy ridge walks and broad views over the Rift Valley. Lake Magadi is a remote soda lake set in hot, stark terrain where waterbirds may gather. Maasai pastoral culture remains central across much of the county. Kajiado works well for travellers seeking a short safari, hiking near the capital or a longer road journey through open plains and volcanic landscapes.
