Narok County
Narok County stretches across the southern Rift Valley to the Tanzanian border. Its best-known landscape is the Maasai Mara National Reserve, a savannah ecosystem rich in lions, elephants, cheetahs and other wildlife. The Mara forms the northern part of the wider Serengeti ecosystem and hosts dramatic wildebeest crossings during the seasonal Great Migration. Maasai communities have deep cultural ties to the region, and responsible community conservancies complement the national reserve. Beyond the Mara, the Loita Hills and Mau Forest add highland forest, walking country and important watersheds. Narok town is the main road gateway for many journeys into the reserve.
