Embu County

Embu County spreads from the forested southeastern slopes of Mount Kenya into the warmer lowlands of the Tana River basin. Mountain forests and routes near Mount Kenya National Park appeal to hikers and nature visitors, while waterfalls and rivers cut through the fertile upper county. Farther east, Kiambere Dam creates a broad reservoir on the Tana River, and Mwea National Reserve protects dry woodland and wildlife along the county’s lower edge. Embu town is the main service centre amid coffee, tea and macadamia farms. The county combines highland scenery, outdoor activity and quieter eastern Kenya road trips.
