Isiolo County

Isiolo County is a gateway from Kenya’s central highlands to the arid north. Buffalo Springs and Shaba national reserves form part of the wider Ewaso Ng’iro ecosystem, supporting elephants, lions and distinctive northern wildlife such as Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk and reticulated giraffe. Bisanadi National Reserve extends the protected landscape eastward in a remote setting. Isiolo town is a busy, multicultural transport and trading centre serving Borana, Somali, Turkana, Samburu and Meru communities. Travellers use the county for safari circuits, overland journeys north and experiences of pastoral culture amid rugged hills, riverine woodland and open savannah.
