Busia County

Busia County sits on Kenya’s western border with Uganda and extends south to the Lake Victoria shoreline. Busia town is one of East Africa’s busiest land crossings, giving the county a lively commercial character. Lakeside communities around Port Victoria and Sio Port depend on fishing and offer views across the water. The Sio Siteki wetland supports waterbirds, while the Samia Hills provide walking country and broad views over surrounding farms. Rice fields, sugarcane and small trading centres fill the lowlands. Busia is best suited to travellers interested in border culture, rural western Kenya and quieter lakeside landscapes.
